While the online narrative archive, The Warp and Weft of Memory, was conceived by Renée Turner, it was actually made by a team of people working closely together. Garments from Gisèle’s closet were photographed, images from her archive were scanned and once digitzed and placed online, tagging was applied to understand how items relate to each other. In the process, there was a continuous and dynamic exchange between programming, writing, illustrating and adjusting the infrastructure.

The online work, much like a tapestry, required weaving different elements together and moreover the nimble hands and minds of a group of people to bring together the work as a whole.

The evening will be moderated by Annet Dekker, whose expertise in digital archiving, will no doubt raise broader questions relevant to digital arts practices and the digitization of cultural heritage.
